Web 3

Web 3.0 is the next generation of the internet that describes decentralised networks built using blockchain technology.

While Web 2.0 was ruled by centralised 'big tech' superpowers like Google and Facebook, Web 3.0 allows for a more even disrtibution of power with technologies like the blockchain, cryptocurrencies and NFTs. The name was first used in 2014 and, much like the phenomena it refers to, remains somewhat soft-edged and mutable. The advent of Web 3.0 has opened new horizons for artists, in particular those who create Generative Art using autonomous, code-based systems.
