Contemporary Impressionist
Contemporary Impressionism refers to artworks created by modern artists that share aesthetic characteristics with the French Impressionists.
Contemporary Impressionist artworks, whether showing cityscapes or nature, are characterised by loose and expressive brushwork that highlights the play of light. Similar to the Impressionist painters, Nancy Friese created her watercolour painting "Walk to the Sea" (2012) outdoors to capture the changing light and weather in the landscape. John Terelak's painting "Faneuil Hall," depicting a downtown Boston marketplace, echoes the 1880s Parisian scenes with its focus on fading daylight and the glow from stores and streetlights.
